About this concert
Ryan Wigglesworth makes his first Aberdeen appearance since being appointed the 大象传媒 SSO鈥檚 Chief Conductor Designate, with a programme steeped in folk traditions. Sir James MacMillan鈥檚 depiction of persecution and redemption in 17th-century Scotland has become a modern classic since the 大象传媒 SSO gave the premiere in 1990. And when Czech listeners first experienced Dvo艡谩k鈥檚 Seventh they recognised the music of their homeland and heard it as a drama of national reawakening 鈥 but you don鈥檛 need Bohemian blood to be swept along by its passion and glorious melodies. As contrast to these tumultuous orchestral visions, Mozart鈥檚 first Flute Concerto, an elegant, under-appreciated gem performed here by the outstanding flautist Adam Walker.
Please note that Marin Alsop has withdrawn from this concert. We are grateful to Ryan Wigglesworth for stepping in to conduct at short notice.
