Semyon Bychkov conducts the 大象传媒 SO in an all-Russian Prom that climaxes with Tchaikovsky鈥檚 Manfred. Kirill Gerstein is the soloist for Rachmaninov鈥檚 Piano Concerto No. 1, whose beauty is a natural companion to Taneyev鈥檚 brooding Oresteia overture.

About This Event

Continuing his season-long Tchaikovsky Project, which included performances earlier this summer with the 大象传媒 Symphony Orchestra, Semyon Bychkov conducts an all-Russian programme that climaxes with the composer鈥檚 vividly programmatic symphony Manfred. Translating the struggles of Byron鈥檚 hero (who celebrates his 200th anniversary this year) into music proved a challenging task for the composer but the result is a glorious musical epic, full of drama and colour.

Kirill Gerstein is the soloist for Rachmaninov鈥檚 youthful Piano Concerto No. 1, concluding our cycle of the composer鈥檚 piano concertos with a work whose stormy beauty is a natural companion for Taneyev鈥檚 brooding Oresteia overture.
