The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Philharmonic join with Manchester Cathedral Choirs, together with singers from Chetham’s School of Music, and Christopher Stokes (Organist & Master of the Choristers) for Choral Evensong at Manchester Cathedral.

This evening’s programme includes two works from Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry.

We hear Parry’s Blest Pair of Sirens – a setting of John Milton’s ‘At a solemn Musick’. First performed in 1887, the work has remained a standard in the choral repertory – having been performed at the 2011 wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and, more recently, at this year’s Last Night of the Proms under Sir Andrew Davis.

Parry’s royal affiliation continues with a setting of I Was Glad - written for the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902 and revised in 1911 for that of King George V. With a familiar introduction and regal brass fanfares, this piece also featured in the 2011 Royal Wedding as the processional music for the Duchess of Cambridge and was previously performed at the wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales in 1981.

This service is free to attend and the service will run from 17.30 – 18.30.
