Tonight the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Philharmonic welcomes soloist Jennifer Pike for Max Bruch’s much-loved
First Violin Concerto – the ‘richest’ and ‘most seductive’ of all the concertos for the instrument, according to 19th- century virtuoso Joseph Joachim. We also hear AntonÃn Dvořák’s New World Symphony, his ninth, composed during his time in America in the 1890s and featuring themes from spirituals and roots music. Ben Gernon conducts.
