The ´óÏó´«Ã½ SSO’s short focus on Swedish composer Wilhelm Stenhammar continues with a rare performance of his exuberant Serenade for Orchestra, a work completed in 1913. With its strong Scandinavian flavour it shares many similarities with the music of Sibelius and Grieg. In the second half, members of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ SSO and Andrew Manze perform another rarity, Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen’s skilful transcription of Nielsen’s Sixth Symphony.
The concert will be broadcast live on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 3, presented by Tom Redmond.
