Kaiser Chiefs formed in Leeds in 1996 and were named after a South African football club.

Their debut album ‘Employment’ (2005) sold three million copies and was nominated for the Mercury prize and won an Ivor Novello in 2006. ‘Ruby’ arrived in 2007 and gave the band their first #1 single.

After their Wembley gig in 2009, Kaiser Chiefs took a break. Nick and Simon formed Chewing Gum Records, and Nick produced for The Vaccines and wrote for Dame Shirley Bassey, Mark Ronson and Duran Duran.

Kaiser Chiefs re-emerged in 2012 with new drummer Vijay Mistry, who replaced Nick Hodgson to release their first compilation album, Souvenir: The Singles 2004–2012.

Later that year Kaiser Chiefs played live at the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony– covering The Who's classic 'Pinball Wizard'.

The band's fifth studio album, titled Education, Education, Education & War was released on 31 March and topped the UK album charts - of course its success was not harmed at all by lead singer Ricky's presence on prime time TV as a popular judge in ´óÏó´«Ã½ One's The Voice.
