Concert information
Three pages from American history. Tsontakis's Let the River be Unbroken takes slave-songs and hymns to reawaken all the romance - and cruelty - of the Civil War. Barber brings European Romanticism back home to the East Coast of the USA in a violin concerto whose glorious tunes and blossoming lyricism have made it a true modern classic; perfect for the gleaming tone of Sarah Chang. And Aaron Copland salutes the end of the Second World War in a symphony of blue skies and boundless optimism, crowned by - what else? - his Fanfare for the Common Man. Is this the Great American Symphony? Albany Symphony Orchestra music director David Alan Miller will make a powerful case.
