An extraordinary media frenzy, stirred up by politicians, pressure groups, and newspapers surrounded the release of the mighty blockbuster that was "Rambo: First Blood Part II". Years of political correctness have not been kind to this movie, but the new DVD enhances everything that still makes this a ferocious action ride.
The sharp anamorphic widescreen transfer will be a revelation to fans, with many of the jungle scenes revealing new levels of detail, previously lost on video. There remains the odd fleck of print damage and the odd soft frame but this disc takes years off the movie.
The 2.0 sound mix does a good job of relaying the jungle locations. But the many fine explosions lack the depth that a separate sub woofer channel would have given in a 5.1 encoding.
Momentum Pictures Home Entertainment have done a good job in digging up plenty of promotional footage from the original release. This is broken down into six short featurettes and two interviews with Stallone and Crenna respectively. You will find that footage is recycled but you do get comments from the director and stunt team plus behind the scenes footage of what remains a movie of immense scale.
