Australian singer and actress Natalie Imbruglia first came to fame on Neighbours, where she played Beth. She left the programme at 19, and began a highly successful recording career in the UK, selling more than six million copies of her debut album "Left of the Middle", which included the hit "Torn". "Johnny English" is her first feature film.
With your pop career, your modelling contract, and now a movie career on the go - how are you going to balance all your work commitments?
It's going to be a challenge. I'm going to tread very carefully. I'm hoping to have an album out this year, so it doesn't look like I'll be doing another film this year. It is something I'd like to do, but I'm also aware of the risk of spreading myself too thin.
Does the modelling contract, and your musical success, help sustain some kind of profile on the other side of the Atlantic?
I guess the success in America has been a help. The second album didn't do as well, so I do feel reasonably anonymous there. But now the L'Oreal thing has happened, that's thrown a spanner in the works. But it's very good at keeping up my profile for the States, between records.
Was it daunting to be making your movie debut in such exalted company?
It was, a bit. I was really nervous when I started, but everyone really made me feel comfortable very quickly. I was able to settle into it in no time. Even though I was obviously quite nervous, everybody was really supportive, and understanding of the fact that I hadn't acted for a long time.
Were there a lot of jokes on set?
Every day I had a real challenge keeping a straight face. I actually got told off a few times for giggling during a take. It was hard, very hard, but fun too.
