This beautiful scabious would look as happy in a wildflower meadow as in a manicured border. 'Burgundy Bonnets' is thought to be a form of Scabiosa atropurpurea and was found by chance in a Suffolk garden. Its pincushion flowers vary from dark burgundy red through to shades of pink and mauve with white stamens. The blooms appear from July to September and grow to around 60cm (25in) tall. For the best results, plant this hardy perennial in well-drained soil in full sun.
