Black-eyed Susan is a native of east Africa and, as might be expected, enjoys warm, slightly humid weather with shelter from cold winds. It used to be regarded as a conservatory climber for growing in tubs, soil borders or from hanging baskets, but is becoming a popular subject for outdoor cultivation, both in baskets and in more protected corners of the garden. The usual variety, 'Suzie Hybrids', in shades of orange or white, is more restrained than the wild plant. Feed and water regularly, and make sure plants are well supported, and they will prove very easy to grow.
