A brand new version of the Guinness Book of Records is launched on Friday 29 September. 大象传媒 Hereford and Worcester has had a sneak preview of the book... Had his chips The first local achievement is awarded to Hereford's former mayor, Alan Williams aka Mr Chips. On Thursday 19 February 2004, he entered the record book for cooking up the worlds' biggest bag of chips weighing in at more than 800lb (363kg). Sixty bags of potatoes, 30 gallons of vinegar and 50lbs of salt were used by Mr Williams and his team of helpers. They battered the previous record of around 413lbs (187kg), which was set in Belgium three years previously.

Mr Williams and his assistants used a bank of industrial fryers to cook the chips, which were placed in a metre-square bag. The record attempt was held on the Hereford racecourse and raised money for St Michael's Hospice. The former mayor, who owns Mr Chips on Commercial Road in Hereford, hit upon the idea while leafing through the Guinness Book of World Records one Christmas. He said: "It was held by somebody in Belgium so I thought, it's a British thing, let's get it back for Britain." Tennis elbow Meanwhile, representing Worcestershire in the record books is Steve Worrallo and Alan Benbow. They hold the title for participating in the longest tennis rally in history, after hitting 24,646 shots over the net at Droitwich Tennis Club on 24 March 2005. The challenge took them more than seven hours to complete and they raised more than 拢32,000 for the club in the process.
