This year I began to research the Hospital ship the St. David. My Nana's sister was a Theatre Nurse on the St. David who died when the ship was bombed by the Germans off the coast of Anzio Italy.
I always new about this Lady but she was just a picture on the mantle piece. I have learnt so much that I now feel quite belittled by the sacrifices people made for the safety of others. I have uncovered events that show great bravery and it has touched me greatly. We (of my generation 40 )do not know how lucky we are that we have not had to fight.
If we do not let these people live through thier story then in my mind they die forever. Wasn't it the Ancient Egyptians who believed that as long as someone spoke thier name they remained immortal? I think that is true. My Nans sister now has a new lease of life in our hearts and thoughts
