The bombs were dropping every day causing massive damage. We could go out to visit a relative and come back to see houses missing. One day my mother was returning to our home after one such visit, with myself and my two brothers. As we turned the corner of our street she let out a scream. Her neighbour and friend's house had been a direct hit. The house was totally demolished. But worst of all there were bits of her friend hanging in the tree in the garden. It was a gruesome sight for us all. I was about 8 at the time.
