My Grandad, Roderick (Roddy) McIntosh, arrived at the coast of Normandy 4 hours after the first landings.
According to stories told to me of what he recalls, he served on a ship called Empire Raider which may have been a captured German ship.
His main duty was to man the Bofors (Boffer) anti aircraft Guns but the worst thing he had to do was to shoot at dead Allied soldiers floating in the sea. This was in case mines were attached to them by the Germans to damage Allied ships.
I still search for information on the internet about the ship mentioned but to no avail.
My Grandad still lives in Elgin, Scotland with his wife.
If anybody remembers him or his ship I would greatly appreciate a notice of this being posted.
Regards,
Paul Cumming (Proud Grandson)
