December 1944. Bill and others in the 13th Squadron were listening to music through an improvised amplifier, made with a tin hat and a pair of earphones, when an announcement came on which caught their attention.
Mary of Arnhem played nice music usually. The radio station was just over the River Maas, about twelve miles away. They had good reception but they did not like what they heard!
"Hello you boys of the thirteenth squadron. You are wondering if we are coming. Well don't worry, we are!"
Morale plummeted and the music did nothing to lift the spirits. "Homeland kiss me goodbye, we must fight now or die. .....". How did she know where they were? Must have been a prisoner.
Nevertheless, Bill made it home.
