I was 13 when war broke out, we lived in the centre where the blitz commenced. When the planes came over we used to live in the cellars. We used to spend from 6 o'clock' at night until whenever the raids finished in there. If there had been a bad blitz, we never attened school but if it was a short period we would. There were people killed in the street by incendary bombs, there was a big air raid shelter and people were all killed in it by a direct hit. The factory next door to us was set on fire by a fire bomb called the Molotov. There were contstant queues for our food, you couldn't get bananas and other fruits just potatoes etc. Food in general was rationed. My father was a tool maker and tool setter, part of a small firm, he made smalled parts for aircraft. When I left school at 14 I went to get a job in an aircarft factory, making the wings for the bombers. From day to day we tryed our best to make it through.
