During the second world war I worked at Plaxtons in Scarborough, producing ammunition boxes and then served in the R.A.O.C., first of all in London and then for 2 years in Kenya.
My most abiding memory of wartime is of living on Wimbledon Common during the V1 and V2 attacks on the city and the kindness of the local people who welcomed us into their homes.
