My brother and I went to the Fish shop to get some chips at about 5 o clock. We were about 7 years old. As we came out these planes came over and I could see a pilot in the plane coming towards us - I could even see his face. He was firing at us and the bullets were going all around us. Luckily a man in a pub called the Bull Dog came and pulled us in - he saved our lives. My father came looking for us - and he found us in the pub!! That was the night they bombed the BAC.
During the war everything had to be blacked out. One day when my mother was out, my brother - who was about 6 at the time - found a tin of silver paint in the garage and painted the back door. You could see it from miles away. My mum went berserk
