I lived in Liverpool, when on September 3rd 1939, I heard over the 大象传媒 to keep children away from towns. My brother and I were actually on holiday with an aunt and uncle, so we stayed in Old Colwyn, and our parents returned to Wavertree in Liverpool.
I found myself very homesick and cried myself to sleep each night. We came home to Wavertree by Christmas, 1939 and confronted all of the bombing.
There was a public air raid shelter in the road, and my brother would not go into it, so my father took my brother in there for safety. I studied for my 'scholarship' whilst in this shelter and eventually passed. A little later we got our own 'Morrison Shelter' in our living room. This shelter was used as a dining table and my brother and I slept underneath it.
In spite of everything, we were not frightened, we all survived...
