My earliest memories when I was 5 or 6 was walking across the park to go to Church on a Sunday morning and it was ploughed up for planting for food and divided up for the 'Dig for Victory'.
Our family had an allotment and we had fruit trees and potatoes and beans as well as strawberries and raspberries - this was on Freemans Common.
