I was on the buses and I was working. My fiancé was in the Far-East. I had to call to work on the buses from Penny Lane. The town was alive then, the atmosphere at that time was electric. Everybody just couldn’t believe that the war was really over, there had been rumours.
At that time we had to sign forms that once the men came back from the war our jobs were finished, but I didn’t feel finished it at that time because the VJ wasn’t finished you see. My fiancé — thank God — did come home and we were married. He was allowed 48 hours leave so got married. The church was packed everybody wanted to get married we had no photographs. The cake that we had was home made from friends. It doesn’t seem like 60 years at all.
