This story takes place in August 1942
I was waiting at Newton Abbot railway station to change trains when a bomb dropped.
I was in the wooden shelter waiting room when the German plane came over. It was so close I could even see his face in the cockpit. Fortunately I wasn't seriously injured, but I did lose all my belongings. I did see one man who was seriously injured.
A soldier gave me some money to get home as my purse was buried in the rubble. A docter then approached me and took me to his home to calm me down. I stayed there overnight.
The next day the doctor took me to Newton Abbot bus station so I could continue my journey.
At the time I was going home for two days leave. I was a nurse in a mental hospital in Exminster.
