Plymouth spring 1940, i was just 7 years old. Walking home from school with my mother we became aware of a low flying aircraft. On looking up, to our horror, it suddenly opened fire.
My mother threw herself on top of me, as the bullets tore along the pavement, luckily we were not hit.
I remember seeing the bullet holes for years later ricoched into the sandstone wall.
My three grandsons never tire of hearing my wartime story.
