Charles George Hunt was born in the summer of 1915 in Folkestone, Kent. When he left school, he joined the Royal Navy and served on several ships including HMS Ganges.

By the summer of 1940 he was Leading Torpedo Operator on HMS Wakeful. The Wakeful was recalled from her duties to assist in the evacuation of the BEF from the beaches at Dunkirk.

She was loaded with over 600 men when Wakeful was hit and sank within 15 minutes. Only 25 men were saved from the ship.
Charles was not one of the lucky ones.

It makes pretty grim reading.
