i was born 3 weeks after the war started, 27.9.39 i knew i was christeneda few weeks later as my mum was terrefied we would be bombed. so my mum and dad were my godparents. the only memories i have of w.w.2 are the sirens, sitting under our diningroom table when there was an air-raid, my dad was in the homegard i had to go to hospital to have my tonsils out in 1945 and i was supposed to in a week but i was discharged one day after my operation as they were cleening the hospital (north wing) for returning soldres and i had to stay in bed and watched the VE day street park (bridge road) through the window. but i clearly remember VJ day, especialy my first (tin of ) salmon sandwich. years later i recall my first banana and the first sweets i bought without coupons.
