My mother, then Norma Curtis, was a Desborough girl who joined the Land Army and ended up working at Sibbertoft Manor,Sibbertoft. She was there with another Northamptonshire girl, Nellie (married name Mucklow). They became friends during their stay and on into later life. Norma's employers at Sibbertoft were Lord and Lady Stanley (ex India) and it appears that she was one of the lucky 'gels' as her life was good. She was able to cycle home on her days off to be with her family and then return the following day. Not all Land Girls were so fortunate. Her work at Sibbertoft was mainly horticultural and light work at that most of the time. In January 1944 she married Dad (Major Walter Lee - Tank Reg) and they settled in Northamptonshire after peace was called.
A short story about a Land Girl, but they all did their bit and power to them
