Scappa Flow (around 1944?) Happiest Moment

One day captain announces that Royalty would be coming aboard the D.O.Y in a week鈥檚 time. The following week chosen crew would be ordered on quarter deck in blue uniform in formation. To our surprise came King George and Queen Elizabeth. They came talking to the crew and I was arms length away. The Queen looked and said that War would soon be over and that we would all soon be able to go home to our family and loved ones. Soon after we were told that the King and Queen would be on the ship for 1 week.

Unhappiest moment. Battle against the German Battleship Sharnaurts

Helping other naval ships to destroy and sink the great ship and we were ordered to top deck at night to see the sinking of Sharnauts. I felt tearful and it was with heartache that I watched those from the ship go down. Knowing that like me they had loved ones and families back home never to be seen again. Too much to take in left top deck to pray for all that that were lost at Sea. Orders were lights out on ship. Don鈥檛 know why. God bless all that lost their lives in World War Two.

I was known to colleagues as "West Brom". It would be nice to hear from anyone who has stories about the Duke of York (Stoker.)
