I was five years old when the war started.
There was a lack of tasty food.
We had an air raid shelter at school.
I remember watching Sheffield ablaze. It was all red — the sky.
We had a search light party at home. I think the search lights attracted the bombs.
At home during the air raids we would go under the table.
We had to carry gas masks at all times although we never had to wear them.
We played ball games.
My family was at home because we were farmers so we were exempt.
We still had to do work.
My sister who was a lot older than me had to deliver the milk.
