Contributed by Evelyn Atfield "Lyn"
I was married in 1941 and because of food rationing will always remember the wedding cake. The cake looked wonderful but was actually a large cardboard shell which covered a very small fruit cake!
During the war I worked in a grocery shop in Redhill. Eggs were rationed to one per customer but there were no restrictions for cracked eggs. One of my customers was a man with several children. I confess that I used to crack one or two eggs under the counter when the manager wasn't looking and sell them to the man because I felt sorry for him!
