I was living in Kingsbury in Middlesex and in 1940 I was working for the Ministry of Supply in Adelphi Building in the Strand. I was working with a group that were building engines for tank landing craft. We put the orders out for parts and they were assembled at Paxmans in Colchester. I then went into Bush House, situated in Aldwych, although the work was the same. A V bomb fell on part of Bush House. I was at lunch but several of my colleages were badly injured. I had never used the shelter until the bomb fell, but from then on I did! I also did fire watch at Bush House and often went to Somerset House for breakfast. I, like my husband traveled on the underground every day. In my case on the Bakerloo line to Charing Cross. One thing that sticks in my mind is that people from all walks of life worked together.
