I remember my dad and some neighbours built an 'Anderson Shelter' in the back garden, but we probably only used it once or twice.
After the first few air raid warnings we didn't really bother going down to it, so it was all really a bit of a waste of time.
I also remember a community shelter being built on a near by green.
Again I can't remember any residents using it but after the war as children, we certainly made great use of it - as the perfect den!
