This story was submitted to the peoples web war site by Wendy Young on behalf of [ peg]Margaret Price with her permission she fully understands the sites terms and conditions Greta Gibson was a friend of mine who drove an ambulance in London during the war. In 1944 she came to spend a week with me in Caple-le-Feine.
It was double summertime so it never got dark until eleven at night. One night we tuned the radio into a special programme of music which was organised by the americans. We were enjoying ourselves waltzing around the lounge to the music when we heard a funny noise. Looking out of the window we saw a strange object. It was like a plane as it had wings but there was a flame coming out of the back. At first I thought it was one of our planes in trouble and couldn't understand why the guns were firing at it. It was the first Doodlebug.
Winston Churchill talked about Hitler's secret weapon, and this was it.
