Husband Harry away 5 years. Desert Rat taken prisoner when Tubruck fell. July 1940 called up after Dunkirk until June 1945, released by Russians.
Worked at Luke Turners in Deacon St Infirmary making garters and suspenders. Lived in Wigston Fields, moved in when we married in 1939, 66 years.
Germany during the war, POW in Italy, then Germany, saw bombing of Dresden. Russians not interested in POWs. Major got lorry and some petrol and got to American lines. German people very good and shared what they had got.
In Desert speaking and RSM then went away, shell fell never found anything of the SM.
Make do and mend - peeled potatoes, let peel dry on the stove then smoked it or eat it if there was no food next day.
