My name is Glyn Williams and I鈥檓 86.
I was working up at Brymbo Steelworks at the start of the war, but I got called up into the army eventually. Our job was reserved, but I did get called up in 1943. I went to join the fourth battalion of the Welsh regiment, and I went down to Brecon in South Wales.
We went to Belgium, Holland and Germany. After D Day we went there. I was an infantry man. I was supposed to be on mortar, but I ended up on the mines. You had to detect mines. We had mine detectors, and then we had to search them out to see if there were any anti handling devices in them. It was a dangerous job. I had to do that until the war ended.
I never applied for my medals. I wanted to forget about it, see.
After the war, when I finished in the army, I went back to my job in the steelworks.
