I was 16 when WW2 broke out. As it was a Sunday I was having a "lie in". I could hear the radio was on downstairs but was unable to hear the actual words. All went quiet & I heard my Dad coming upstairs. He came into my room tears streaming down his face. I was startled. "What ever is the matter?" I asked & was told that the Prime Minister had announced that we were at war with Germany. My Dad had been through WW1 & had never forgotten the horror of the trenches in France. His tears were for all the young men who would make the supreme sacrifice. From that moment on our lives changed completely but that is for further stories. Joan S.
