One day, I was sent to the local shop by my mother and there was a platoon of soldiers having a smokoe (smoke break). I asked one of the soldiers if he had real bullets in his gun, and all the men laughed. Then he gave me a little bar of Frys Chocolate. I've often wondered if he made it through the war.
