I was stationed at an RAF base outside Newquay, Cornwall. I joined the RAF in 1940, when I was 18 years old. I remember when we were on drill parade outside an hotel car park. I had done something wrong as far as the drill was concerned, and the Sergeant came over to me and said, 鈥淎nderson, what rank are you?鈥 I said, 鈥淎C 2 Sergeant鈥. He said, 鈥淒o you know why you are an AC 2鈥. I said, 鈥淣o Sergeant鈥. 鈥淲ell I鈥檒l tell you. You鈥檙e an AC 2, because there is no such rank as an AC 3鈥.
