He worked at G.W.R. for ten years when he was enlisted to serve the army at outbreak of war. He served over five years in the Royal Artillery (Field and Searchlight Regiment)
1940 — 1945. He was stationed at several gun sites on coastline in England and Wales. We met and married on Dec. 1941 when he was stationed at Swansea. He was on duty when Swansea was bombed and badly destroyed & bringing down many enemy German planes on those dreadful frightening nights. He was later sent to Kent to gun down the Doodle Bugs, bring many down before they could reach and destroy London. Wilfred was invalid out of Army and discharged in 1945.
