I was an evacuee and remember the day war broke out on September 3rd 1939. We were taken down to West Byfleet in Surrey and we were going to a lady who was expecting two boys. I turned up with my two brothers and remember the bus journey on the way down. I was given a bag which was full of biscuits and a large bar of chocolate as a ration to keep you going for the journey. I was lucky I somehow got two bars of chocolate which was a good start. I came back when the bombing had stopped only for it to start again so my brother Pete was sent to our Aunts in Widdington which is a tiny village in Essex.
