In 1940 at the age of 16 I was sent, along with two workhorses, to a Transport firm in Shoreditch. I was sent out at night with a horse and dray to help clear up the mess after the bombings,
I was collecting body parts and taking them back to the Transport yard where they were laid out in a warehouse. At seventeen I enlisted in the R.A.F. It was not until many years later that I realised what a gruesome task it had been.
