I was 18 years old when I volunteered in Leicester to join the Airforce.
One Saturday afternoon I went to the Midland Red Garage.
My mum wasn’t very happy.
I was a flight mechanic overseas — War had finished when I went overseas.
We did our square bashing at Birmingham — we were there for 8 weeks.
You could see the boats going up and down the canal
My brother had been discharged from the army.
I was in the ATC in Coalville when it first started.
I wanted to be in the airforce and not the army — this is why I volunteered.
I looked after the engineers — I had 4 happy years and I enjoyed it.
