My father had just returned albeit a little shell shocked from the evacuation at Dunkirk and was sent with his unit up to Southport -Lancs.At the time he was a twenty year old country boy from Kent, just conscripted into the army.
One afternoon they had the chance of leaving their base,so dad with a few of his mates went for a walk along the sands of southport(Bit different from his recent experience at Dunkirk). As luck would have it they came across a number of young ladies evacated from london. One of those girls fell for my father's charm and throughout the war they dated and on 04-05-1944 they married!
Dad had a successful career as an Architect and their maarige lasted 49 years until my mother's death in 1993, and father died in 1998.So some good things came out of the conflict!
