My father, Bill Edgar, was in the RAF in Scotland — ground crew. All his unit were due to fly to Borneo, and as they were waiting 3 names were called out, including his, and they were told that they would be staying; they weren’t given any reason. All the rest of the unit were captured or killed. Much later he was told that it was because he was married with three children. I was born later — I might not have been here if not for that.
