The following story relates to my memories during a three week holiday in Brixham with my aunt in May 1940, at the age of seventeen. There was a new unused holiday camp, the Dolphin, in Brixham that was being used by Canadian soldiers who had served and been rescued from Dunkirk. There were also Belgian refugees at the same time, a lot of whom had no passports and were not allowed any further than the quay. Eventually they were sorted out and housed in the town amongst ordinary families. It meant that everything was a bit chaotic because of the town being crowded but it did not really affect my holiday to any great extent.
