This story was put on the website by Sadia Majid on behalf of Sherly Arnold. This was written by permision of the author.
Everyone on our road was issued with an Anderson Shelter. We were told basically to dig a hole to put it in the garden, what they forgot was we were living below sea Level! The shelter flooded. Eventually it was replaced by a brick shelter built in the garden.
Not soon after I remember a bomb fell three doors away, we had already evacuated to the shelter where inside it sounded as if our whole house had fallen apart. The blast blew out our windows, part of the roof and carried a motorbike over the wall into the garden.
I remember inside the house was a vase of flowers which had been blown from a table onto the floor, but was still upright with all the water on it!
We felt the blast in the shelter but were thankfuly unharmed.
