At school we adopted 3 ships a minesweeper, HMS Burn and an Andradite. We used to write to them and send them things like knitting etc.
They sent us a flag which they had found at sea.
It was good to be able to do that when we went to school.
A Captain came on a special visit to the teachers, he was gorgeous. I used to write to a sailor.
