I lived in Gidea Park at the time of one of two incidents I had with a V2 rocket. I was at School and It was just after the morning assembly. It was then that a V2 rocket landed on the Button Factory behind Ardley Green School, which was a wooden building.
The whole of the hall was sucked out and the roof collapsed. Luckily no one was hurt in the School. The second incident was in our road, Northumbland Avenue, when during a night raid a rocket landed in the back garden of the house opposite ours. In the morning the road was covered in lumps of earth.
We went over the road and were trying to take pieces of the rear fins, but we had to go to School. When we went to go home, my Mother was at the school gate and said we could not go home as it was an unexploded Rocket in the garden and the whole road and area was closed off. At the time I was ten years old, so it was really exciting at the time.
