During the war I lived in London with my grandparents, mother, sister and Aunt Mary - my father was in the Navy.
A lady living down the street kept chickens and one night after a lot of bombing, we came out of the shelter and all we could see were feathers - my mother was quite upset as she thought that the neighbour's chickens had been killed in the raid - however --- it turned out that the feathers were from a feather duster which had landed on our chimney.
I can remember a German plane coming down in a nearby street, everyone rushed to see what the plane was like but the police had cordonds off the street. The German airmen had got out of the plane.
There was lots of noise in London as we had raids both day and night, I don't think people realise what it was really like if they did not live there. My mother would not allow us to be evacuated as she said that if we were going to die we would all die together.
