I was sixteen years old when war broke out and living with my parents in N.E. Yorkshire. I was most anxious to join the WAAF - and on my eighteenth birthday - 17th March 1941 I applied.

There was not a recruiting office at that time so I had to attend a local doctor who was a client where I worked. I was turned doen for the WAAF because of my teeth! So I went to a dentist and had my teeth fixed and joined WAAF. I was posted to HQ Fighter Command at Bentley Priory.
